Classic Susan Stoker It's no secret that I'm a huge Susan Stoker fan. I am wrapped up in this world and I pre order each book as they are available. This book had me on the fence because I don't like stories with a older heroine, younger man. I just don't. Call me a hypocrite because I love older men/younger women stories. It's just not my jam. However, what did intrigue me was the fact that the hero was hearing impaired. That hit close to home for me and it tilted the scales to the "read" side. Now, aside from the older heroine storyline, I did enjoy the book. Classic SS with- -alpha male hero-heroine in a tough spot but a fighter -no cheating-no ow/om drama-no pushing away -action/suspense -some mention or interactions with past fave charactersI loved Cooper. He had lost most of his hearing and was learning to adjust. Kiera was a great heroine. Dependable, supportive and loving. I definitely enjoyed the story. Aside from the age gap, the only other thing I was disappointed in was the lack of epilogue and HFN ending.

I love how Susan Stoker writes her characters, they are typically well fleshed out and written with depth and thought. When there is drama it makes sense to the story and not thrown in because it's 70% in the book and expected. I have yet to read one that is under 4 stars for me. This one was hard for me just because of the subject but school shootings are hard for me(and a lot of people I am sure) to deal with.

This was such a great book! I loved Cooper so much! Such a great guy! Kiera is great too! The age difference didn't seem a big deal to me but I understand some people do. The story spoke to me quite a bit because my Aunt was deaf and seeing someone dealing with learning ASL was interesting to read. Everything about the story spoke to me and was great to read! This is definitely one to check out!

Susan Stoker has delivered yet another heart swooning romance with Protecting Kiera. This was a quick and sweet read and I loved every minute of it. This book is part of Elle James’ Brotherhood Protectors Kindle Worlds on Amazon. Protecting Kiera brings us the story of Cooper Nelson and Kiera Hamilton. Cooper or “Coop” is now a retired SEAL after he lost nearly all of his hearing from an explosion that detonated too close to him. He’s struggling with adjusting to civilian life after his dream of becoming a SEAL was taken away from. He’s now completely deaf in one ear and only has 30% hearing in his other. He wears a hearing aid and is slowly learning American Sign Language. Kiera Hamilton is a sweet 37 year old school teacher. She teaches at the Riverton School for the Deaf where Coop volunteers during the week. Kiera is struggling with her attraction to Coop as she is so much older than him. The character development throughout this book was gorgeous. Cooper comes a long way with accepting his hearing loss and adjusting to civilian life. Kiera goes from being insecure with herself to throwing caution to the wind and just taking what life throws at her. I love how fierce Kiera is! She has a love for her students that you don’t see every day. When one of her students becomes threatened she turns into a mighty mama bear and does all she can to protect him. This gives you a look into both Susan Stoker’s SEAL of Protection series as well as Elle James’ Brotherhood Protectors series. I love Susan Stoker’s books but now I’m keen to start reading Elle James too!

Wow, props Susan Stoker props! I did not realize until I took a closer look at the cover, that he actually has a hearing aid on. Also love the fact there's a bit that basically says "Hey do you want to read about Swede? Go read Bride Protector SEAL (Brotherhood Protector Series Book 2) by Elle James" I find quite a few do not say where I can read about characters shown in a multi author world/kindle world which makes it hard for me to track down books. Some of the lines I was reading was too funny! I mean come on "seal" and "SEAL"? Happy to hear a little about Cutter who gets his story in the first book in the Sleeper SEAL series. Same goes to seeing bossman and his wife. Can not wait for the next Susan Stoker book, looking forward to Fish's and Cutter's upcoming story. This is a voluntary review, I do not get paid for this!

2.5 starsLovable characters but too much telling and talking about feelings. The usual protective alpha (“he oozed masculinity”), former SEAL, struggling to adapt to a disability. There’s no conflict between the MCs and the dialogue sometimes is super sappy (“ Make love with me Cooper. Put out the fire inside me that no one else but you can douse. Please. For the love of God, I need you.”, loc. 1085).

This is twenty seven year old former Navy SEAL Cooper Nelson, and teacher Kiera Hamilton’s story line. PROTECTING KIERA can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.NOTE: PROTECTING KIERA is also the latest installment in Ella James’s multi-author Kindle World of the Brotherhood Protectors.Told from dual third person perspectives (Kiera and Cooper) PROTECTING KIERA focuses on the building relationship between former Navy SEAL Cooper Nelson, and teacher for the deaf Kiera Hamilton. Cooper’s last deployment overseas and his Navy career ended when an explosion resulted in permanent hearing loss for our story line hero. Meeting Kiera Hamilton at the School for the Deaf stirred something inside Cooper Nelson he long thought dead. Having a difficult time adjusting to civilian life, Cooper’s attraction and need for Kiera Hamilton pushed Cooper to volunteering at the school where Kiera taught the deaf and hearing impaired. What ensues is the building relationship between Kiera and Cooper, and Kiera’s struggle to accept their ten year age difference in the face of their growing love. There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including many of Cooper’s former SEAL buddies: Patrick and his wife Julie, Commander ‘Tex’ Hurt (Protecting Melody), Matthew ‘Wolf’ (Protecting the Future), Slade Cutsinger and newcomer Axel Svenson ‘Swede’ who works for the security company known as the Brotherhood Protectors; as well as a number of students at the Riverton School for the Deaf.PROTECTING KIERA is a quick read; a novella length story line that sees wounded Navy SEAL Cooper Nelson come to terms with his injury, his place in civilian life, and falling in love with the woman that calls to his heart. The premise is engaging and entertaining; the romance is quick to build-their attraction to one another has already been established; the characters are colorful and energetic. PROTECTING KIERA revisits many of the author’s previous story line characters and couples, giving the reader a glimpse into what was and what will be.Copy supplied for reviewwww.thereadingcafe.com

I absolutely loved this story!! Once again Susan Stoker has outdone herself. Protecting Kiera is a page turner from beginning to end which provides an insightful look into the lives of those who fight to protect us all and are often forgotten!! Yet again Susan has created "real" characters who I fell in love with as the story progressed in Kiera, Cooper, Frankie, Cutter and Swede (from Ella James' Bride Protector Seal). Through Kiera and Cooper's story Stoker provides an insightful look into the struggles and challenges faced by injured seals and their loved ones while they are trying to readjust to a life outside of service. Susan also brings to the fore the seal motto of no-one left behind in the support Cooper receives from Commander Hurt and some of the other seals we've grown to love in previous stories. In Kiera we see a strong, powerful, loyal heroine who is not afraid to stand up to the stereotypes women face everyday in society and who will fight for and protect those she loves to the end. From the first minute we meet Frankie his story draws the reader in. Through him Stoker gives us a view of the uglier side of life that a lot of children have to face. Of course his resilience and "awakening" had me falling in love with his character by the end of the story!!I cannot wait to hear more about Cutter who we are introduced to in this story but will meet again in Protecting Dakota. I will also have to read Ella James' Book to discover Swedes story.

This is a great story. I feel for Cooper. Having to deal with his injuries and learning new skill is not easy. Yes he pulls it off with help from Kiera. She is the right woman to help Cooper, not only with her teaching him sign language but also shows him that he is not a lesser man. I love the chemistry between them.

What an incredible book by Susan, well worth the time and money to get. A lot of people have no idea of the challenges of being deaf and the brief glimpse we get into this subject is truly spell binding. ASL is truly intriguing and incredible. I can't wait for her next book to be released.

Protecting Kiera is one awesome book What if you suddenly lost everything that you knew and has worked so hard for? Would you begin all over again or would you try to adapt and do whatever it takes to convince the Commander that you're still an asset to the SEAL teams? Cooper has been a Navy Seal for most of his adult life and with the help of his former team he'll learn how to adapt.Kiera Hamilton teaches at a school for the deaf and when Commander Patrick Hurt (Protecting Julie) recommends a volunteer who just happens to be a medically retired Navy SEAL to assist in her class she reluctantly agrees. When she meets him, she realizes that she knew him 10 years ago. As she teaches Cooper how to use ASL they both wonder if the growing attraction between them could be pursued. But Kiera is 10 years older than Coop she tells him it will never work. Now doesn't that sound like a challenge he's willing to take just to prove her wrong and he's determined to take that challenge. Cooper Hamilton lost almost all his hearing after an IED explodes near his backpack. He's having a really hard time adapting to a not hearing so when Commander Hurt orders him to volunteer at Kiera's school little does he know that the children were just what he needed. He tells them of his former job and the kids help him that can still be himself but just use his hands to speak and hear. When he meets Frankie (one of her students ) who begins refusing to using ASL Cooper decides to only to help him but reach him the seal sign for acknowledgement which is a "manly" head tilt. They will both learn through each other. When one of Frankie is kidnapped by his non-custodial parent, Kiera doesn't hesitate to try and save him. With the help of Swede, Cooper runs to try and save both the woman he loves and Frankie.I loved this story not just for the May December romance but again having the SEAL of Protection guys and Swede from the Brotherhood to me it's the best two book series meshed together

I usually don’t read the blurb at the beginning of the book because I don’t want to go in with any expectations. This time I took the chance and was glad I did. Our author has taken on the subject of someone having a disability but then goes one step further.Kiera Hamilton works with children with limitations. Cooper “Coop” Nelson is having to learn something new. My smile moment came when Kiera explains about ASL. Everyone serving our country is a hero but there’s something extra special about those that are overcoming adversity. There’s an age gap here but it didn’t make a difference in how I felt about this story.Coop certainly knows what he wants and I’m happy for him but he just seems too good to be true. We have to remember that he’s fictional otherwise we’d all be fighting over him. In the meantime we can just “sigh” when he walks into a scene. This is a hero worship story – and I mean for both Cooper and Kiera. There are all different types of heroes in this world and they’re not all in the military or in the public sector. As you get toward the end, a little boy named Frankie stole my heart and brought a tear to my eye. It left me wondering if he would follow in Coop’s footsteps. I was left smiling right up until the very end. Would love to know if they appear in another book in this series.I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

Protecting Kiera by Susan Stoker Protecting Kiera by Susan Stoker is one of a series of books called SEALS of Protection. Each of the books according to the information I gathered can be read alone. I did not feel uncomfortable or felt like I was missing information jumping in with this book. I found the series by accident as I have read some Susan Stoker books previously and thought they were interesting.Kiera is a teacher at a school for the deaf. Through a mutual friend Kiera meets Coop. Coop Nelson is a SEAL who was wounded and lost a large amount of his hearing. He was given a medical discharge and had to learn how to communicate. Coop liked Kiera a lot, but he felt that his lack of hearing would be an impairment to a relationship with her. Kiera understands how Coop struggles and does not understand why his lack of hearing would be a problem. Coop even comes into her class to tell them about being a SEAL and having to learn ASL. Coop still worries that his lack of hearing will not allow him to protect Kiera... which is a very important part of him and being a SEAL. Protecting Kiera really looks at the men who come back from war damaged, sometimes in ways that are not seen. I love how Susan Stoker handled Coop and Kiera and their relationship. I enjoyed the storyline and the passion that Kiera had for her students. I enjoyed the book and found it to be a good read.

Susan Stoker has done it once again by merging her series with Elle James Brotherhood Protectors series (There goes my savings) And what a book it is! Not surprising though, Susan Stoker manages to add magic to any series that is lucky enough to merge with hers, and frankly, I end up becoming a fan of that series too, which just goes to show that Stoker has great taste in the Authors she chooses to partner with.I especially loved this book because I traumatically lost most of my hearing last year when my eardrums were ruptured, so I can definitely empathize with the hero in this book, and it made it just that much more special for me.Cooper Nelson is no longer with his beloved SEAL team because an explosion took out almost all of his hearing, but since he’s been volunteering at the school for the deaf that Keira Hamilton teaches at, he’s gotten a bit brighter. Especially when she pulls him aside at a party and and zooms in on the trouble he has when in crowds. After that, he and Kiera get together and she teaches him more than what it’s like to be deaf in a hearing world. But a student’s family is a cause for trouble, and Coop has to rely on not only his SEAL training, but a buddy from the Brotherhood Protectors to get her out of danger. Not only did I fall in love with Susan’s character’s but I most definitely fell in love with Elle’s world as well, which means more books for me to go check out!

Marie's Tempting Reads ARC Review:What a completely fantastic novella right here! Susan Stoker brought a younger/mostly deaf hero with a older heroine to us that left me completely in LOVE more so, with her incredible writing. I don't usually care for a younger hero/older heroine pairing all that well but seriously, Susan Stoker knows how to write a younger hero who is ALL man, sexy, protective, and the most mature hero of all time. Cooper is EXACTLY the type of hero I ADORE. He is gorgeous, kind, sweet, all alpha with a heart of gold that ONLY Susan Stoker can create. Kiera is the exact type of heroine I could picture being best friends with. She is normal but beautiful. She has a normal job with an average body type that seems way more realistic who happens to capture the heart of a true hero. I can't get enough of this type of romance!I fell instantly in love with this novella the moment I started it. Susan knows how to bring me to my knees with her words, her characters, her irresistibly kind and respectful romances that have just the perfect amount of heat and sweetness. Kiera and Cooper are beautiful together and when we get glimpses of some of my FAVORITE SOP heroes and heroines I smiled from ear to ear and it was hard to contain my excitement and happiness. And the suspense and action..oh yea, its THRILLING!Protecting Kiera gets a STUNNING AND SWEET FIVE SHOOTING STARS! Susan Stoker gets my full approval EVERY TIME and I love reading her books.

5 Stars!!!I was given this book in turn for an honest review. When Cooper is assigned the task to help at the local, children's deaf school, Kiera not only brightens up his day, she helps to rebuild his confidence. Will their journey be plain sailing, or does devastation lie in wake? Another fabulous, romantic suspense, by Susan Stoker. There is just something that you simply cannot resist about Susan's SEAL men. They all have their own little quirks and charms to them, that are hard to resist. Cooper is brave, loyal, strong, caring, and simply wonderful. He is amazing with children, helping them to combat their fears and bring out the best in themselves, whilst along the way he helps to rebuild himself and his future. Kiera is sweet, clever, caring and optimistic. She has a beautiful outlook on her students and life. She has an inspiring way with deaf children and adults. Together Cooper and Kiera are perfect. They build each other up and give each other support. They are so adorable together, you simply want to squeeze them in delight. I loved this novella from Susan Stoker, it's the perfect companion to the SEAL of protection series and can easily be read as a standalone. If you enjoy military romances, with a little added humour, drama and suspense, Protecting Kiera is for you.

Protecting Kiera by Susan Stoker is another amazing 5 star read. Cooper Nelson is trying to figure out where is life is going, medically retired from the military when an explosion took all the hearing in his right ear and 70% in the left, he's badgered by his old commanding Officer into volunteering at a local school for the deaf where he meets Kiera Hamilton who is a teacher there. Kiera grew up with a deaf mother so she always knew sign language and she loves the children she gets to teach, when she sets eyes on the ex-navy seal Kiera finds herself attracted to him but worries the 10 year age difference between them is too much. Meeting and getting to know Kiera helps Cooper heal in ways he never thought possible, he knows he wants to spend his life with her. Cooper thought he left the danger on the battlefield but he finds it in the last place he expected and has to use his training to save the woman he loves. This is another amazing piece of writing by Susan Stoker, just when you fall in love with one of her characters another comes along and steals your heart.

Cooper has been struggling to find his way since he got injured, his hearing was an important aspect of his job as a Seal so to lose that meant he lost nearly everything. Volunteering at the school for kids with hearing problems starts to help his healing, meeting and falling for teacher Kiera does even more. Kiera is fiercely protective of her kids, but seeing Cooper struggling at times and knowing how to help gives her an extra meaning and purpose. These two are so good together, both are strong but each can offer something to the other to make them even stronger as well as working as a great team with the kids. Also as a result of this it gives Cooper something to aim for with a job after the Seals. This story is another that gives insight into how difficult life can be and inspire all of us to be more understanding of those with a handicap of some kind, maybe more of us could learn sign language in our lives to make it slightly easier for those with hearing loss. Inspirational and uplifting story that had me in tears at times.

This is a brief and hot romance in Elle James' Brotherhood Protectors world. Stoker seems to tell their story in well-removed third person. It would have been ok to be a little closer to these two because they're so darned cute.Cooper is a SEAL, medically discharged after losing most of his hearing. Kiera teaches hearing-impaired first-graders. He has a crush on her, and she returns the sentiment. Until one evening, at a party at Julie Hurt's thrift store, Kiera understands what is making Cooper so moody and unwelcoming. When she tells him she knows what's wrong and explains what to do and how she knew what to do, the walls begin to tumble.Cooper becomes her class' favorite visitor, and luckily, he is around on the day a parent causes a near-tragedy. Theor romance is sweet and hot, and I liked it. Swede from Hank Patterson's Brotherhood Protectors team makes an appearance, and they will all meet again soon.

A very nice balance of heat, humor and suspenseThough I've read this author before, I haven't read the Elle James' Brotherhood Protecters series; as usual for this author, this story holds up well on its own, but having read the connecting series will no doubt enhance the reading experience.I tend to love damaged heroes, and I adored Cooper, the former Navy SEAL who lost most of his hearing in an explosion. He's sweet and sexy, great with kids, and of course, very protective. I loved Kiera as well, who is funny, smart and fierce, and just as protective in her own right, both of Cooper and the kids she teaches. This was a quick, engaging read as Cooper copes with his altered world and his new place in it, with a very nice balance of heat, humor and suspense. 5 starsB2B Kelly

In a word, Susan Stoker's books, more than anything, are just SPECIAL! Her characters are developed with love, humor and passion that we could only wish for everyone. Kiera, a teacher for the deaf, finds herself meeting a former Seal who survived an IED blast, which destroyed 75% of his hearing. Cooper, determined to move ahead with his life, his focus on learning sign language takes over, while at the same time his attraction to Kiera grows. I love their growing relationship and Cooper's insistence that, although Kiera is 10 years older at 37, his experiences, maturity and outlook make all the difference. Kiera is an independent woman who isn't always thrilled by Cooper's protective tendencies, but intuitively they understand each other. There is suspense and excitement, as well, but I won't spoil the plot. This is a delightful story that I highly recommend! Kudos!

There hasn’t been a book Susan Stoker has written that I haven’t liked. Kiera and Cooper are a very unique couple. She teaches at a school for hearing impaired students. She is the daughter of a deaf mother and so has signed all her life. Cooper’s hearing was badly damaged in an explosion while on assignment as a SEAL. He is learning to cope with his hearing loss and also how to acclimate back into civilian life after many years in the service. Not only is this a wonderful love story, it is also a beautiful look at learning new abilities when life takes a different turn than expected. I absolutely loved this story. I received a free copy of this book and am writing a voluntary review because I want others to know how good this book is. I highly recommend this book.

For a short story this one was packed with goodness. I loved that Kiera was older that Cooper, got that she was leery of a relationship with him and liked that she brought up her issues to Cooper. Cooper had great points to every one of the issues. I liked that Cooper wanted to date, to get to know Kiera before jumping into bed, to prove to her that yes he wanted her, but he wanted her for more than her body.Cooper's visits to Kiera's school was great! I loved how the visits helped him, but really seemed to help the kids, especially Frankie. I hated that there was drama at the school, but really we should have seen it coming. I loved that the kids listened to Kiera, that Cooper and a buddy were still at the school and could help save the day.
