I love fairytales and K.M. Shea is my new go-to person for their retellings.Gabrielle is disgruntled when her parents divvy up their inheritance giving her brothers the mill and the donkey, and leaving her nothing, prodding her to marry for her survival. Her mean spirited sister-in-law suggests that she take a stray cat as her inheritance. The cat, who she later names Puss, proves to be a treasure! I loved the partnership between Gabrielle and Puss: the way that he helped Gabrielle grow and find adventure, and the way they bantered back and forth.Of course, along her journey, fighting bandits, killing trolls, and eventually defeating an ogre, Gabrielle meets the King of Arcania and the crown prince, Steffen. I enjoyed seeing the Royal family from The Wild Swans, and seeing how Gabrielle and Steffen got together. Although Wild Swans was released first, Puss in Boots occurs first chronologically, and can be read independent of the series. Of course, the series is so great that why would you want to miss any?I highly recommend this to fairytale fans.Content: clean (some kissing). Appropriate for a young teen audience, but enjoyed by this adult!

Puss In Boots is a jolly good time! This one is full of humor, wit, and daring adventures! For a faerie tale that will warm your heart and keep you laughing, look no further!I couldn't remember if I had ever read the original tale, but certain aspects of the story felt familiar, so I must have read a version at some point or watched an animated version when I was young. Either way, I'd have to say this was my favorite! This tale had such life and wildness to it!Puss In Boots by K.M. Shea was so fun to read! I loved the feel of the story, and the originality it had. It had some nice twists and unexpected enjoyable moments, and it was just so vivacious! As a stand alone, it was well developed as far as the world building and characters are concerned. But, as part of the whole Timeless Fairy Tales series, it was astoundingly detailed, and has moved to my new favorite of the tales!! I loved the detail in the world and how it connected to past tales. I loved the quirky, witty characters and how they fit so well in to the amazing, fantasy world!Gabrielle has become my new favorite character! She was charming, witty, brave, and independent. She was strong and kind and incredibly kick ass! I loved her wildness and sense of adventure!Puss was so hilarious to read! I loved his magical abilities, and his sassy personality! I loved his courage and his love for Gabrielle, and I laughed way too much at his sarcasm!!I also really enjoyed getting to know Prince Steffen and King Henrik better! Both of their characters were quite regal, but each had a big heart. Steffen was devilishly handsome and quite entertaining, and I loved how we saw King Henrik's agreeable personality!I had read a post from a blogger once who stated that it was not possible for someone to love every single book they read from one author. I believe my Faerie Tale Friday posts have proven that blogger wrong. I have loved every single book I've read from K.M. Shea so far! This one has moved in to my new favorite spot. It was beautiful, charming, quirky, and wild! It had heart and soul and carried Shea's themes of strong, uplifting women and the importance of developed love (not love at first sight) and family/friend love!Thank you to the author for sending me this free e-copy in exchange for my honest review, and as part of my Faerie Tale Friday posts.

This fairy tale retelling features a girl, Gabrielle, and a talking cat. Gabrielle's beauty makes her stand out in her small village and not in a way that she wants. When given the opportunity she leaves her village and with the help of "Puss" heads off for adventure. She becomes the people's hero, helping with issues in villages and in the process meets the King and his son who are touring the kingdom. She must learn to accept that she might be kind of awesome and the prince must learn that someone might like him for himself rather than is crown.

K.M. Shea’s Puss in boots is an excellent entry in her Timeless Fairytales series. It might even rank up there with my favorites, Cinderella and the Colonel and Rumpelstiltskin. Although each story works as a standalone I suggest you read the earlier novels, especially The Wild Swans, as Puss in Boots, though technically a prequel to that book, includes characters and events mentioned in some of the other stories. As usual in the series Shea has gone back to the original fairytale and really change things up. The original fairytale followed a young boy who picks up a cat in boots who gives him a pair of boots with which he can travel leaks at a time Shea’s version of the story the young man is now a young woman who is cursed with an excessive amount of beauty which has caused a lot of harassment in the village where she grew up. After an interest being incident with her parents as a young woman Gabrielle or Gabi for short, runs off with a cat, Puss, who is capable of speech. Egged on by Puss Gabby proceeds to engage in several adventures which end up with her meeting with the king of Arcainia as well as the crown prince, Steffen. I don’t want to spoil more of the story, but it’s an incredibly entertaining tale that you shouldn’t miss out on if you’re a fan of fairytale retellings. Shea’s writing continues to improve in book after book, and her characters continue to be, the sort of people who are flawed enough to be interesting to an adult but kind, brave, and sweet enough to be role models for a tween. The romance in this novel was pretty sweet, though not the biggest plot line and although there were several dramatic moments, Shea kept the humor up throughout, including one of the most hilarious lines of the series, which starts out with several hurrahs (you’ll know it when you see it). Both Gabi and her love interest grow noticeably throughout the novel, as in Cinderella and the Colonel. I loved how Shea showed the characters maturing and the new way they each viewed some previous situations they had been in. Not only is this really well-written characterization, it makes the romance really believable, and the payoff at the end of the novel is great.I strongly recommend this entry, as with every other novel in Shea’s Timeless Fairytales series to anyone who enjoys fairytale retellings, humorous fantasy, or novels with awesome female leads.

Another great fairy taleI loved it. The retold story of Puss in Boots is excellent, and I like that it has romance, action, and comedy in it. It left me feeling satisfied and happy, and I like that K. M. Shea's other books are referenced in it. I would recommend it if you are looking for a fun book to read with independent and strong characters that go on adventures.

Of the Fairy Tales series, this might be my new favorite. Gabrielle wasn't my favorite character at first, but she has a lot of personal growth and quickly becomes quite likeable. Puss is awesome, their adventures are fun, and I think the plot, character development and romance all run at a good pace. Overall very satisfying story and a fun spin on the Puss and Boots story.

This was a great retelling of this popular fairy tale. Both Puss and Gabi were fun characters, and their banter made for some great on liners. References to smaller fairy tales made the book humorous and drew in some tales that would not otherwise be brought into a romantic fairy tale series. Be forewarned that this book happens chronologically before the rest of the series, with the exception of part of the epilogue. You should at least read The Wild Swans before reading this book, though even that is not strictly required. Readers that have read the other books in the series will be rewarded with Easter eggs throughout the book.

Adventure!, Love?, and a Talking Cat!?The story starts out as usual, beautiful girl plagued by suitors. But then her parents leave her no inheritance expecting her to just marry. As a joke her sister in law tells her she can have the stray cat. Little did they know he was no ordinary cat!!!! He can talk and has magic!!!! Now the adventures begin!!! Where will they go? What will they encounter? And what is the main part of this plan the magic cat has? Turn the page and join the adventure

Sigh!I am devouring this series, one book a day (to the misfortune of the responsibilities in my life, lols) and I keep getting delighted with each new story! The author is so clever with this fun series - and although each story is a standalone, I very much advise for reading in order! Many, many bonus points that I can share these books with my younger, bookworm daughter since the content is clean. Strong, unwilting female characters and the authors who write them FTW! 💜😻

Great turnI like how the writer change the original stories to her own personal signature. Some change here and some more there just giving a more open idea of the success of the story .The cat with his sassy personality and her even more sazzier than him but with a great sense of freedom;just waiting for the world to came to them and executed the best recure missions.

I was charmed by Puss and his sassy self. This was much more an adventure story than a romance to me. Gabrielle and Steffan interact through out the book, often in an amusing way, but they don't spend too much time together before falling in love. More of the story focuses on defeating monsters leading up to the evil ogre, all with Puss's snarky commentary.

4.5 Stars!A fun, adventurous tale sure to delight fans of the series! Shea has certainly hooked me! I feel as if I am devouring her books like a good piece of chocolate. Her novels are clean, witty, often humorous and romantic; a recipe for success! I will add that this novel in particular had me chuckling out loud a few times! Eager to read Book 7.

Read Before Book 2I love the interactions between Gabrielle and Prince Steffen. They really butted heads. It was hilarious. Be sure you read this second not sixth in the series. It happens years before book two with the same characters. It makes no sense to put it as book six.

FabulousI loved this book and this series! Strong women who make their own way and be don't need someone to save them. Do they fall in love? Yes, but it is not some true love that don't rewire work, time, and overcoming obstacles. Loved it.

I loved this one as well. Gabi was great and so was Rowland! I wish I had read this one before the swans, but at the same time, it was nice to have it be a surprise in that one.

I felt that if the ending of this one was tweaked, this one actually very well could have been the first novel in the series, as the events in this book - except for the last couple of paragraphs - all happen before any of those in the rest of the book. That said, I don't think I would have been as invested in the series if I'd read this one first, so... maybe not... As it stands, it was an enjoyable read, but I don't feel it held the same merrit as all the ones that have come before it.

I love Puss! Gabi is an adventurer and Puss is her unlikely companion. They make the perfect team and are the quiet heroes to Rune's public heroism. I didn't know how I would like this- since it goes back in time to before all the other books instead of staying on the one-track timeline... but I find that I like learning about Gabi and Steffen after already learning about Arcadia an the rest of the siblings. It also gives us more knowledge of the early moments when all the black magic started really taking over and being noticed.

I love ALL OF THEM!Steffen and Gabi and Puss and King Henrick and the Brothers! Okay okay. Gotta gather my thoughts. This has to be her best one yet. Even better-though it pains me a little to say it-than B&B. I This was stupendous. The level of skill has increased dramatically-it's amazing. Not to say that Ms. Shea didn't have skill before, but this one...just wow. It's more mature, the pacing is great, the individuality of all the different commoners is fantastic, the dialogue is better. *makes big excited gestures*I mean I know I rarely have anything but praise for these books (actually I'm a pretty harsh critic, but I always love them, it's tough love), but SERIOUSLY THO. If you've never had the pleasure of being introduced to K. M. Shea, I think you should read this one first. Well, read all of it but the last chapter, then read Wild Swans, then the last chapter, then Beauty & the Beast, then whichever order you please. The three above are definitely her best Timeless Fairytales, in my opinion. Wow...I really have nothing negative to say about this book. Characters:I love Gabrielle. I did in the Wild Swans tale, and this book is ABOUT her, so that's awesome. STEFFEN IS MY FAVORITE OF ALL SHEA'S CHARACTERS I SWEAR TO GOD HE CRACKS ME UP. Puss is fabulous. Best pet/companion ever. And the part where he purposely let Gabi do most of the heroic deeds so his role could be downplayed in order to keep her safe later melted my insides. I kind of want a cat now. Plot: Very organized and lovely and just plain GOOD. Dialogue: I feel like I've worn out capital letters but who cares THE DIALOGUE WAS THE BEST ITS EVER BEEN WOW. Lots of vocab words! Romance: Pffft Steffen and Gabi are my OTP 5ever. Best Timeless couple. Oh, and thank God Gabi recognized that Steffen liked her. One more clueless Timeless girl and I was going to hit myself in the face with a brick. I don't mean that in a bad way I just-I mean-ITS OBVIOUS THAT HE LIKES YOU OKAY. But Gabi was cool. It was just enjoyable all the way through, folks. Hilarious too. I'd feel like a blasphemer if I said it was my new favorite (because B&B has a special place reserved in my heart) but......Okay, one quick thing tho. I feel like there needs to be a timeline for all the Timeless books maybe? As a visual person, I know I would appreciate it. That's it. READ IT.

It's a book with a talking cat, a feisty heroine, adventure, romance, an ogre and magic. What more could you want? Did I mention the talking cat? I love a talking cat. This is the sixth book in KM Shea's timeless fairytales series but is actually a prequel to Wild Swans, an earlier book in the series. While there is some overlap with this book it still works really well as a standalone. The story follows Gabrielle, the Miller's daughter and one of the most beautiful girls in the land. Unfortunately her beauty brings her unwanted attention. She is unable to walk through town without boys propositioning her and girls hating her. When her parents decide to leave her with no inheritance but the stray cat that has been hanging around it's the last straw. They insist she marry immediately to secure her future but she longs for freedom and the life of an adventurer. As it turns out the cat, is a magical cat who can talk. He offers to accompany her on her quest for adventure if she will buy him a pair of boots. Together they end up travelling across the land from village to village battling magical creatures including goblins, witches, a mean old fairy and the gingerbread man. However Puss in Boots has a bit of an ulterior motive involving a quest for power and an ogre.I thought this book was a really enjoyable read. It has a great pace that keeps you reading and weaves in threads from a number of different fairytales. Gabrielle was a likeable enough character however the highlight for me was Puss.Puss, or Roland Archibald Whisperpaws the Fifth to give him his proper name, was a fantastic character and just how you imagine a talking magical cat would be. He likes everything his own way and will decide if you are worthy to be his owner. Should you be deemed worthy of the honour of becoming his mistress you will be required to obey his every command. He is affectionate on his terms only and does not take kindly to being loaned out to the village children for a game of dress up. As a magical cat he is of course very intelligent and a cut above your average moggy, which you should never forget. He is perfectly comfortable chatting to the king and is supremely confident in any situation. Basically he was a cat and he was fabulous. For me Puss made the story great but then I am a cat lover.

Very charming adaptation of the fairy tale. Instead of the youngest son taking Puss in, the youngest daughter of the family chances upon Puss and sets out for adventures. Shea has woven this book into the other books in the series, though I read Puss first and didn't miss anything. It wasn't until I finished the book that I realized the characters appeared in earlier novels. It was so refreshing to see a beautiful girl setting out on adventure. Gabi is the most beautiful girl in her village, and is therefore considered fair game for all the boys. On top of that, her parents don't leave her any money or means of supporting herself and expect her to marry in order to support herself after her parents leave to live with their siblings for the next few years. Gabi is having none of that and resolves to leave town for adventures. Puss is a magical, talking cat. Not only magical because he can talk, but able to cast simple spells. Puss makes a deal with Gabi, agreeing to help her on her adventures if she can find him some boots to fit his paws. Hence, Puss in Boots.Of course, along the way, they meet the king and the prince, but the prince, Stefan, doesn't fall in love with Gabi at first sight, and Gabi is simply irritated by Stefan. Instead of the instant love of a fairy tale, the story takes a twist into typical romance where the hero and heroine can't stand each other until they experience shared hardship. It was a nice break from the typical fairy tale. Gabi's adventures take her throughout the kingdom, saving villages from bandits and magical creatures, and gaining the appreciation of villages along the way. Gabi and Puss never take advantage of the villages beyond a few nights lodging and some good food. Of course, they meet the king and Stefan again and again, but it is Gabi on her own who ultimately destroys the evil magic that is plaguing the land. That was very refreshing.Several different fairy tales show up among Puss and Gabi's adventures, most notable is the witch in the candy cottage from Hansel and Gretel. As I said, Shea's novels all tie together, though Puss in Boots is one of the later novels in the series. I'll need to go back and read the earlier novels to really enjoy how they all come together.

4.5 starsI finished another book in this series (even though I really shouldn't when I am supposed to be busy) and it does not disappoint! It is of the right length, a great blend of adventure and romance.I read this series out of order (even though I know I shouldn't) they can still be read as standalone. After reading Rumpelstiltskin, I chose Puss in Boots. The author did a great job writing characters (especially protagonists) of different personalities. I enjoyed reading Gemma really much, since I could connect with her practical and sensible soul, so I was a bit worried after knowing that the protagonist of this book would be a girl who wants and desires adventures. I do not like reckless characters. Surprisingly, although Gabrielle wants adventures (and sometimes she does plunge into one adventure after another without much thought), she is always thinking, planning . She does not approach adventures rashly and recklessly which I admire very much.Steffen, the crown prince, is another great addition to the story. He is loyal and so duty driven. He might seem cold and detached at times, but he cares for Gabrielle in his own way. I love seeing the interaction between his brothers and him (which shows his sarcasm). One minor complaint is that I hope we see more of the sarcastic side when he's interacting with Gabrielle. Puss is one clever cat (magical cat). And you have to read the book to understand his intelligence. The plot flows smoothly and keeps me reading. Now I am having difficulty deciding which book in the series I should read. I am looking forward to reading more in this fantastic series. (view spoiler)[I read that there is one book in the future featuring Angelique and I am looking forward to it! I feel that her story would be quite interesting. I wonder if her book would be a fairy tale retelling too? Tho I believe it'd be at least 2 years before we could read her story. (hide spoiler)]

The thing that made this book was it's characters, and not even the lead character. The supporting cast was excellent. In an odd reversal of the flow, Gabrielle's point of view was largely reserved for bashing goblins and ogres, and Steffen's displayed most of the romance. The switch was welcome and fun, and it also helped to set this book apart from the rest of the series. In my opinion, the same attitude that Gabi developed to keep away suitors also served to drive my interest away. Although her point of view about beauty was different from the norm, and it was a key part of character, I feel like that combined with her desperate need for love was the only aspect of her character. She seemed pretty two-dimensional to me.Steffen, on the other hand, is the character I have related to the most out of all of Shea's books. In the Wild Swans, we caught a glimpse of his quirky and caring personality, and Shea brought that to the forefront in this installment. His hopeless blunders and witty comebacks made me smile and laugh, and it made him someone that I would fall in love with (if he was real!). He seemed human and real, and his love and worry for his father was perfect for his character. I loved Steffen!Henrick and Puss we're excellent foils to Steffen and Gabi, as they countered the rash actions with smooth talk and sleek planning. The plot consisted largely of bashing dark creatures and Gabi and Steffen bickering and flirting. Nothing special, but it was executed well enough. It was an enjoyable and quick read, and often it brought a smile to my face!
