The writing is not bad, it flows easily and evokes beautiful images. The reason I gave it one star? I did not like the heroes and the handling of this story at all. Please skip the rest of this review if you don't like spoilers. The heroine is a virgin who usually does one of the following three things:1) Cooks a variety of foods, pies and sweets,2) takes care of someone/ helps someone,3) blindly obeys her (clearly insane and backwards) dad.The hero usually does one of the following three things:1) Thinks of ways to have sex with the heroine. He also never wears condoms because this is a romance book and how are you going to get the marriage/ child ultimate finale/cliché if he wears condoms, you ignorant fool!?! Sheesh! What do you mean, 'venereal disease'? Is that a kind of pie?2) is overbearing, juvenile, presumptuous and VERY crude,3) can't explain why this woman makes him feel so differently, but she does, because reasons.Quotes:"His cock sang with electricity, then hardened like steel.""Best pussy in the world.""Sperm boiled in his hard spheres.""I can't wait to sample your pie, he thought, thinking the sweet pie between her legs was probably just as sweet as the pies she baked.""I'd much prefer friends with benefits," the hero thinks about the heroine. After two paragraphs: "You deserve a good man in your life." (Hm, what? How did we go from thought A to thought B?)If you are still living in the 1950s and you want to read an easy book about a marine who feels extremely smug he was the first sexual partner of a woman (as in woman=object and virgin woman=brand new object, with tags on) then this book will rock your world. If you like your heroines experienced and with a bit of backbone, it will probably make you wince.

TTo much corny sex. Could have used less dirty words more true to life activity would have made a better story.

This is a new to me author and I chose this story because the blurb had one thing – marines - and I was an absolute goner. Then the cherry on top was when I found out that this is book 1 in a series, I was just tickled pink to start at the beginning. After serving overseas, Braylon Wexler has returned home as a criminal investigator for the Marine. Braylon’s also from a relatively wealthy family and was raised by his grand parents; it’s their home he returns to. Sandella Summers is the caretaker for Braylon’s uncle, Royce, who has Down’s syndrome. I enjoy a good story and the premise of this was good. There’s so much about this story that I wanted to like but I didn’t like any of it. Once I started reading I couldn’t believe the juvenile quality of the dialogue but I kept reading because I truly hoped it was an editing issue and that the story itself would not only improve but I hoped for improvement in the quality of the dialogue. Neither happened. I so wanted to stop reading but it was like a train wreck, I couldn’t not look. The plot felt under developed, the characters felt under developed, and the scenes felt choppy – like I said I wanted to blame the editing but in the end it was the writing style that I couldn’t appreciate. Back to Braylon, I’m sure the intent was that he should be an alpha male but that didn’t work, he came across as a complete douche. Within the first chapter it’s these kind of lines that made my bull-crap-meter go off. Braylon’s just met Sandella while she’s taking care of his uncle. ‘A naughty vision of him thrashing his tongue with hers entered his mind. He grinned. I can’t wait to sample your pie, he thought, thinking the sweet pie between her legs was probably just as sweet as the pie she baked.” Nothing about that is cute, sexy or romantic and it certainly didn’t endear Braylon to me. But the lines kept getting hokier. Even his interactions with his co-workers were contrived. I’m not even going to go there because I had to skim a few of those paragraphs. I have no idea what Sandella even saw in Braylon. And there was so much about her that didn’t add up. She’s a college student living at home with her wheelchair bound father and a teenaged brother. Her mother was killed many years prior by someone who the family is convinced is a marine therefore the father hates all marines - that doesn’t even make sense. But I digress. So while Sandella’s going to school, she’s baking pies on the side to sell to local businesses, she also has time to be a full-time caretaker to Braylon’s uncle and cook meals for her brother and father. All this without any signs of tiredness. Things heat up very quickly between these two. Soon after sleeping together (those scenes had me shaking my head), Braylon knows about Sandella’s desire to open a shop to sell her pies, he goes online - does research on the type of business and put together a business plan for her – all within 2 hours. WHAT?! I’m being nitpicky here but that’s not even close to being believable. Then my thoughts ran along these lines - Sandella wants to go into business for herself and hasn’t done any of the research or work to make it happen from paper to reality. I’m not even sure where the capital was coming from. But Braylon comes along and all of a sudden things happen? No ma’am, that absolutely doesn’t make sense. Then the whole thing about her dating a marine when her father hates them so rang false and didn’t stand the test of time. There’s nothing about this story that I thought was good. Happy Reading folks!Rating: D*ARC provided by publisher for reviewReview also posted at www.redhotbooks.com

Mixed feelings- BRAB Online Book ClubThis is my first time reading this author's work, and while it was a pleasant read, it was very predictable to me.The author described the first meeting between the main characters as one of lust, especially on his part. She was a virgin but somehow, I didn't see the relevance in repeatedly mentioning it. The dialogue described what he wanted to do to her sexually, in such graphic terms that it got redundant after awhile. The second half of the book where he reopened her mother's murder was a bit more interesting but was still predictable. The only surprise was the gender of the baby, in my opinion. The fact that his ex was claiming that her son was his and he had doubts but never took precaution when having sex. The story seemed disjointed too.

I can appreciate when writing a story, events and endings can happen anyway the writer wants it to; however this book was not only unrealistic but corny and although the author attempted to make the story line sexy it was a fine line crossing into a unappealing description. The writing style needs work along with the plot because it left me confused as to if the killer/rapist went to jail or died. Just all over the place! Then...once you're done there's a excerpt for the next book Marrying the Millionaire, if it's anything like Marrying a Marine then NO THANK YOU!"

This is probably one of the most poorly written books I have ever read. Not counting the typos, the writing itself was crude and elementary. There are better ways to write "love scenes" without being vulgar especially when the other dialogue is portrayed as coming from a more innocent place.

The best! This was a very good book. Braylon and Sandella were so cute!!! This book was an emotional ride for me, but I'm happy Braylon was able to help out Sandella by finding her mother's killer. I'm also happy that they got their happy ending, despite Madison and her trying to come between them. First time reading from this author and won't be the last. Starting the next book to the series now. Great job

Love the story lineWhen you can get past the profanity, there is a nice little mystery. There were a few grammatical errors but not enough to take away from the story. I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to other readers. I knocked off two stars for the profane words.

In this love story the two main characters must overcome the elephant in the room. Years ago her mother was killed and the story goes it was done by the hand of a Marine. Sandella Summers, who works for the Wexler family, and is taking care of Royce who has Downs’s syndrome. Meets Marine Braylon Wexler, who has just been transferred to the criminal investigative unit at the nearby base. Once they meet there is an instant attraction between them and he finds that not only is she great working with his uncle Royce, but that she is a fantastic baker even supplying a few area bakeries with her pies. As the story goes along once he reports to base strange things start to happen to him. Example the file for Sandella’s mother ends up in his truck, even though it is a copy he is now ready to find the killer of her mother and is trying to figure out why certain people who are still on base have not done more with the case. Have a while the attraction between the two of them can’t be denied and she is doing everything to hide it from her father and brothers. Meanwhile he still gets little clues about the case and then when he goes to talk to someone their house starts on fire that very night so now he is feeling like he is getting closer, but he is still trying to find the person who is leaving him clues either on his desk or at his truck. He is also putting together a list of suspects. The relationship starts getting intense between the two of them and the next thing she knows is that he is helping her to take her business to the next level in getting a license, a bakery, a name, and the orders are starting to go out the roof. When the author brings the book to a close and you find out what happens she has done it a way that makes sense and true to the story that she had already created, she has also created closer for some of the other characters. This is good story, with mystery and romance and sex. A good book. I got this book from net galley.

Braylon is a Criminal Investigator, a marine who has served in Iraq where his friends and team were all killed by "friendly fire" when one of the team shot them. He killed that soldier.Sandella's the only daughter of Kane and Sugar. Her Mum was raped and killed - supposedly by a marine who was never caught or charged. Because of this, she distrusts all marines and really has to fight her attraction to Braylon (but not very hard), especially when he starts investigating what happened to her Mum.This has a great storyline and is potentially a brilliant story, however some of the choices made just seem out of keeping with the characters - especially the sexual relations between the two main characters. Some reality checks seem to be needed en route in this story. I actually think the story itself is potentially fantastic, but has problems because the character actions don't always synch with their portrayed beliefs. I will still look out for other books by this author as I quite like her writing style and believe she is capable of writing a really superb book - just miss out the sexual interactions, please!Having submitted to a paternity test and awaiting the results would such a supposedly intelligent, responsible marine really have unprotected sex - especially with someone who hates marines and is acknowledged to be working brilliantly to help his Uncle? Would a woman who has been brought up to hate marines because she really believes one raped and killed her Mum (and is still a virgin) jump into bed with a marine this quickly? Thanks to the author, publishers and NetGalley, too, for letting me read a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

So it has been awhile since I have read a romance novel and I was pleasantly surprised by this one. In Marrying the Marine Braylon and Sandella fall in love in secret while she is taking care of his Uncle Royce who has Downs syndrome. Sandella's father Kane is against all Marines because it is rumored that a Marine killed his wife, Sandella's mother. Kane is fanatical in his hate for Marines and even buys Sandella a gun to kill any marine that might try to harm her. Braylon vows to Kane that he will leave Sandella alone and not date her until he find the person who killed her mother. After many twist and turns Braylon finds the killer and he and Sandella are able to resume their relationship with the blessing of her family. Unfortunately something, or should I say someone, from Braylons past comes and throws another monkey wrench in their relationship.Overall this was an excellent read, and very quick at 243 pages. I read this book on breaks at work and during my daily reading hour at home. It was great to read about romance conquering all and reading a stand alone book instead of the series that I have been reading so far. The book is part of a series but is only tied to the others through the theme of marriage, there may also be some cameos but I haven' t read any of those books.I gave this book 4/5 stars and that was only because of the predictable elements that are kind of the hallmarks of most romance novels. A great read that I would recommend for a day at the beach or at the spa.

The premise of this story was great. Sandella Summers and her family hate all Marines because they believed that her mother died at the hands of a Marine. Along comes Braylon Wexler and sweeps her off her feet. He seems to be a man any woman would love to have the attention of. There's just one problem, Braylon is a Marine. Can Sandella get passed that one flaw a claim the man she loves? Can Braylon help Sandella and her family solve the mystery of her mother's murder and when her father's approval. This first started off as a sweet love story with the two main characters meeting and realizing they are very attracted to each other. Braylon comes off as a gentleman until the author allows you into his head, and his thoughts are anything but . Sandella has swore never to get involved with a Marine, but she just can't deny her attraction to him, and has decided very quickly that regardless of what any one thinks , she will have Braylon. I gave this story 2 stars because the characterization of the hero and heroine didn't seem to mesh for me. I guess I was looking for a sweet love story with a little mystery, and in my opinion that's not what I received from this book. I did like the fact that the mother's murder was solved, although this seemed like a very small part of the story. This was just an o.k. read for me, but I would definitely give this author another try.

Spoiler alert: There were too many typos. I wanted to like the story, but I found it lacking. I thought that it was stupid for a grown man to break off an engagement with the love of his life because he might have a child with someone else. Lots of men are great fathers to their children without being with the mom. Also, at one point the book says the rapist is killed, but then later says that he will get justice. The main characters are both grown adults having sex with no protection, but then act surprised that she could be pregnant. Sandella avoids Braylon at first because her father gets angry when any of his children get involved with anyone related to the marines, even though they live on an island with a large military base. One character is raped and another character knows who did it, but she won't say who it is, but she continues to work in the same office with these people. And it goes on............

Marrying the Marine is an interesting story concerning two characters trying to solve an old crime. The plot is developed well enough but the characters are a harder sell for me. I wanted to love Braylon, but the author let me into his mind too much. One minute he is playing the gentleman and the next having lewd thoughts that seemed at odd with his actions. Sandella is also a character of contradictions. She firmly says she will never date a marine but jumps right in with Braylon. Innocent but again jumps right in with Braylon. It is the physical aspect of the relationship drives this story. I can’t fault the author for this because in the title it states, “A Sensual Romance & Light Suspense”. I find I now prefer lighter romance and more intriguing suspense. 3.5 StarsCopy provided by NetGalley for an honest review.

There were so many things that I really wanted to like about this book. There was so much potential in Sabrina's writing. But it all sort of fell flat. I think it could have been redeemed if she'd had good beta readers - or if her editor had been worth their salt. There was just too many things I found myself scoffing at, too many continuity errors, and plot holes galore. But underneath all of that I do believe Sabrina Sims McAfee has a storytelling gift -it just needed some polishing and it's a shame that this book isn't even close to being the best it could be.

I received a copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.Well-written suspenseful read. I disliked most of the characters of the characters. There were many villains in this story. I was glad when they caught the killer and some of them got their punishment. I was hoping more of them would be punished for their part in this tragedy. Recommendation: Tragic, emotional read.

Good dramaI enjoyed reading the story line. Braylon was conflicted in his desire to do the right thing if he was a father. His sacrifice meant losing the woman he loved which didn't seem right to evetyone but him. Kane's negative attitude towards Marines was not right either. The drama and suspense surrounding Sugar kept me scratching my head.

Loved it.. Can't wait for a sequel. Sabrina did her thing. I loved this love story and all the plots and twists that came with it on Hilton Head. Her father was a jewel and he meant business. No Marine was getting with his daughter. Until Braylon...And that girlfriend trying to pass off the child. Lord, can't wait to see her consequences. Loved it.

Good StoryThis is the first book I have read by this author. I loved the suspense, happy that Sandella and her family could put her mother's killing behind them thanks to Braylon. The sex between Sandella and Braylon was HOT and a bit graphic. A little to graphic for me. Loved the secondary characters. I look forward to reading more books by this author.
