What does it mean to be living in post-miracle times? For the youth of China, Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea, the opportunities and challenges of the neoliberal age, deeply shaped by global forces in labor markets, powerfully frame their life prospects in ways that are barely recognizable to their parents.Global Futures in East Asia gathers together ethnographic explorations of what its contributors call projects of "life-making." Not quite my cup of tea, but an interesting read because it collects articles from all over Asia (Well, China, Taiwan, Japan, S. Korea) and describes how neoliberalism is affecting society and culture. When taken together, it's an interesting look at globalization's effects.Obviously some articles are better than others, but there are enough where you're generally always brisking moving on to the next one.
