Time Slide Reviews
David and Christine Slade have been invited to China to take part of the archeological diggings of the ruins of Xanadu, the summer palace of Kublai Khan and this time they can take their children Sammy and Jerry with them. When they arrives in China Sammy starts to see strange things and finally when they find an old hair slide they somehow travels through time. Kids end up rescuing the girl whose hair slide they had found and only then they manage to get back in their own time. Time slide is an exciting read for kids.
A beautiful story! My son absolutely loves reading but we decided to read this story together. I read a couple of chapters to him every night but because of things cropping up we had to miss a few nights. However, when we came back to reading, he was eager for me to continue with Time Slide. He was captivated and followed the plot really well. I didn't realise quite to what extent he had understood the story until he started making predictions towards the end of the book about where it might be going and how it might conclude. He began linking strands and he remembered the names of characters too. As some of them are names we haven't heard of before, I was very impressed! I can say that we both thoroughly enjoyed this story together and when I asked my son what he thought of it overall he said, "It was epic! I loved it!" I asked if there was anything he would have liked to be different to which he replied, "A few pictures, just black and white ones like in The Diary of a Wimpy Kid would be cool". That may be because he has a very high reading age, years above his actual age, but he still likes longer stories to be broken down with something to look at. It didn't really make a difference because I was reading it to him anyway! Otherwise, he was really positive about the whole thing and we are very happy. We definitely have a hit on the bookshelves in our house!
This is a sweet children's story that takes place in China on an archeological dig of the ruins of Xanadu. Marie Godley writes Time Slide which is an exciting adventure for a young person. I personally enjoyed the escape into the unknown. There is adventure ,friendship, time-travel and mystery. This is a quick, smooth and easy read that I think would be enjoyable for most kids who enjoy reading and learning about different cultures and archeology. Quote~“Sammy stared at the painting and the strangest sensation came over her. She felt hot and dizzy. The room began to blur and she could have sworn she saw Lotus in front of her, in the flesh. Then nothing!”
